  • ストーリー紹介
  • Considered by some critics to be the successor to Miyazaki Hayao as Japan's foremost animation filmmaker, director Hosoda Mamoru returns after a three-year wait with the fantasy-adventure The Boy and the Beast. His mother dead and his father long gone, nine-year-old Ren runs away from home to forage a meager existence on the streets of Tokyo. But the angry young Ren is taken in by Kumatetsu, a bear-like man-beast who spirits Ren away to an alternate world called Jutengai, where monsters rule. Over the years, Kumatetsu schools Ren in the art of swordplay and a bond forms between the boy and the beast. However, a power struggle between Kumatetsu and his rival Iozen, and Ren's growing love for a girl from his former home of Tokyo, set the stage for a thrilling and emotional climax that may determine the fate of Jutengai.
After covering quirky family dynamics in Summer Wars and a mother's love in Wolf Children, Hosoda explores the bond between father-and-son in this rich, dynamic and splendidly-realized action-fantasy. Featuring an all-star roster of voice talent, including Yakusho Koji as Kumatetsu, Miyazaki Aoi as nine-year-old Ren, Sometani Shota as the teenaged Ren and Hirose Suzu as Ren's love interest Kaede.
