Synopsis
Based on Tong Hua (the creator of the mega-hit Scarlet Heart)'s historical romance novel Da Mo Yao, 2014's Sound of the Desert is a sprawling romantic epic tracks the intersecting lives and loves of a woman raised by wolves (Liu Shi Shi), a brave general (Eddie Peng) and a gentle aristocrat (Hu Ge), set in the deserts of China, where the political machinations of various factions in the capital play out.
Before being adopted by a kindly Han Chinese man, orphaned Xiongnu girl Jin Yu (Liu Shi Shi) spent years wandering the vast desert with wolves, who treated her as one of their own. She's forced to flee to the desert once again when her adoptive father is murdered during a period of political turmoil. Now going by the name Xin Yue, Jn Yu meets two men; gentle scholar Mo Xun (Hu Ge) and cocky general Wei Wuji (Eddie Peng). As she becomes entangled in romance with the two, she also finds that she's unable to escape the murky politics of the capital, even in the desert.
