Baek Hee-soo (Uhm Jung-hwa) has reigned as the top-selling writer in South Korea for the past twenty years, with a string of bestsellers to her name.

But one day, her name is tarnished. Accused of plagiarizing a book which was submitted to a writing competition in which she took part in previously as a judge, Hee-soo's finds her reputation destroyed in a quick flash. With the additional blow of her marriage breaking down, Hee-soo finds herself unable to write anything for two years.

After taking more advice from her old editor friend at the publishing house, she dreams of staging a grand comeback. With the recommendation of her editor friend, Hee-soo drives down to a secluded cabin in the Korean countryside with her daughter, Yeun-hee, to seek inspiration to undo her fall from grace.

"Yeun-hee, I'll listen to you. Tell me everything..."
The mother and daughter arrive at the quaint but mysterious-looking cabin, which gives off an ill vibe. A room locked up on the second floor, undiscernible creepy sounds which can be heard off and on throughout the house and a spreading black mold hanging on top of Hee-soo's desk...

Suddenly, Yeun-hee begins talking to someone whom she calls her 'friend', a seemingly imaginary friend hers whom Hee-soo never sees. Yeun-hee starts to relay to Hee-soo about the stories she hears from her 'friend'. Thirsting for creativity, Hee-soo becomes obsessed with an odd story about the cabin which Yeun-hee describes to her. Eventually, this story becomes the inspiration for her new book. Sales of the book rocketed, and Hee-soo is placed on the pedestal of the literary community again with her new bestseller, completing her successful comeback.

"It's not plagiarism whatsoever! I will reveal the truth"
Lightning strikes twice when Hee-soo's new book is claimed to be similar to a story found in a book written ten years ago. Yet again, she finds herself caught in the middle of another plagiarism scandal. Insisting that it is not plagiarism, Hee-soo believes that something inside the villa made her write the same story. In order to extricate herself from the plagiarism charges, she heads back to the countryside town desperately to seek the truth.

There, she investigates the mystery surrounding the villa and her so-called plagiarized book. As she digs deeper and deeper, her desperate pursuit of the truth will reveal some horrifying secrets that have been beried for a long time.
